November 07, 2011 | Men's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- The senior goalkeeper finished up the regular season with another Big West Defensive Player of the Week award.
Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev. / Sierra Vista HS) posted a shutout in the conference finale recording five saves at Cal Poly.
In his career, Fontein has accumulated many UCI soccer records including 48 wins and 28 shutouts. His goals-against-average is currently tops among Anteaters, as well.
For Fontein, it is his fifth overall award and third this season including the opening week of the season and once again the week of October 10th. It's the sixth for the Anteaters as a team joining Enrique Cardenas (Coachella / Coachella Valley HS) and two from Christian Hernandez (Palmdale / Taft College).
Fontein is also up for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award which honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring.
Fans can vote at seniorCLASSaward.com or the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Facebook page until November 14th.
Fontein and the 'Eaters are set to start the Big West Tournament as they host the UC Riverside Highlanders Wed. Nov. 9th at 7:00 p.m.
