Mitch Wise, Trent Baxter Receive All-MPSF Recognition

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine sophomore Mitch Wise and senior Trent Baxter have received All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation recognition for the 2011 men's water polo season.
Wise, who has scored 100 goals in his first two seasons at UCI, was named to the All-MPSF second team. He led the 'Eaters in scoring this season with 70 goals, including a career-high six in wins over Occidental and Redlands.
Wise (Beaverton, Ore. / Southridge HS) was also named to the All-MPSF Tournament team as UCI went 2-1 this past weekend to finish fifth. He was tabbed as the KAP7 MPSF Player of the Week Sept. 12 after scoring 15 goals in five wins the previous week.
Wise ranks second in the MPSF this season with a scoring average of 2.41 goals per game.
Baxter was selected to the All-MPSF honorable mention squad. He was second on the team in scoring this season with 55 goals, including four in the 10-9 win over Pacific in the MSPF Tournament fifth-place game Sunday.
Baxter (Fresno / Clovis West HS) scored the game-winning goal 32 seconds into sudden-victory overtime of Sunday's victory over Pacific. He had two goals in Saturday's 5-4 win over Pepperdine at the MPSF Tournament and scored 84 goals in his Anteater career.
Baxter was named the KAP7 MPSF Player of the Week Nov. 7 after scoring a career-high six goals in a 13-12 victory over "Black & Blue" rival Long Beach State.
He ranks seventh in the MPSF this year with an average of 1.90 goals per game.
Coach Marc Hunt's 'Eaters finished the season with an overall record of 17-12.
