'EATERS CLOSE OUT SEASON WITH LOSS: UC Irvine concluded the season with its fifth consecutive loss, falling to Central Michigan, 3-1, in a non-conference match at Crawford Court.
The team was led by Aly Squires (Santa Ynez/Santa Ynez Valley Union HS), who put away 17 kills while Lauren Allen (Redondo Beach/Concordia) made her first career start at setter and posted a double-double of 15 assists and 10 digs. Kristin Winkler (Los Altos/St. Francis HS) led the team with 18 digs while Pauline Acres (Manhattan Beach/New Hampshire) put away 10 kills. Shannon Fleming (Saratoga/Archbishop Mitty HS) and Arielle Manz (Redondo Beach/Redondo Union HS) put up eight kills and six block assists apiece.
TEAM NOTES
- UCI recorded a season-high 13 aces against Central Michigan.
- Shannon Fleming posted a career-high four aces to lead the team while Pauline Acres and Kristin Winkler totaled three apiece.
- The Anteaters also recorded 24 block assists for their sixth match of at least 20 block assists.
- UCI is 88th in the country in blocks per set (2.24) and digs per set (16.02)

Shannon Fleming led the team with 110 total blocks this year.
o Ranked 114th in the country in blocks per set at 1.06.
o Sixth in the Big West in blocking
o Seventh in the UCI season annals in block assists
o Tied for second in the single-match record with 11 block assists against Portland State
o Third on the team in kills with 163
Alexandra Hauser led all players with 33 aces.
o Ranked 94th in the nation in ace average at .34
o Second on the team in blocks with 74
o Ends her career at UCI seventh in the career records with 242 block assists
Mary Carls handed out 735 assists to lead the team.
o Moved to 10th in the UCI career records with 1,182 assists
o Third on the team in digs with 209
o Career-high 51 assists against Utah State and 17 digs against Cal State Fullerton
Shaina Olsen was second on the team in kills with 230.
o Averaged kills 2.58 per set
o Added 148 digs and 11 aces
o Career-high 19 kills against UC Davis
o Personal-best 23 digs against Cal Poly
Arielle Manz registered 84 kills and 44 blocks for UCI this year.
o Career-high 13 kills against Cal Poly
o Personal-best six block assists against Central Michigan
o Hit a career-best .440 against Utah State (12-1-20)
Marissa Alvarez was second on the team with 298 assists and a 4.66 average.
o Season-high 34 assists against CS Fullerton
o Picked up 10 digs against Portland State for a season-best
Taylor Smith recorded 89 kills and 31 blocks for the team in 2011.
o Season-high 10 kills against New Mexico.
o Had five block assists against UC Riverside for a single-match high this year.
