UC IRVINE ENDS FALL SCHEDULE WITH FIFTH PLACE FINISH AT LAS VEGAS COLLEGIATE SHOWDOWN: The UC Irvine women's golf team ended the fall schedule in a tie for fifth at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown held at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.
The Anteaters shot a 286 on the first round, the best round of the fall and ended with a 54-hole total of 891 (286-288-317).
UCI freshman Brenna Carlson posted her first collegiate top 10 finish with a tie for eighth place. She carded a 219 (72-69-78) which included a career-best 69 on the second round. Freshman Michelle Yang was tied for 16th with a score of 221 (73-71-77) and senior Lalita Patipalsiri was tied for 20th with a three-round total of 223 (72-71-80). Sophomore Ronnie Valerio (72-78-82) and junior Michelle Park (70-77-85) tied for 55th with a score of 232.
SEE YOU NEXT YEAR: The Anteaters will resume action at the UNLV Invitational at the Cascata Golf Club Feb. 20-21, 2012.
FALL RECAP: UC Irvine finished second at the Wolf Pack Classic with a two-round score of 602. Freshman Sarah beak made her collegiate debut and posted a third place finish (145) after carding a career-best 69 on the first round.
Baek's 69 was matched by fellow freshman Brenna Carlson at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The 69 was the lowest round by an Anteater this fall and the 11th best round in UCI history. Carlson would end the Las Vegas event in a tie for eighth place (219).
The Anteaters also had a fifth place finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown (891), sixth place showing at the Washington State Cougar Cup (939) and ninth place performance at the Price's "Give 'em Five" Intercollegiate (903).
SENIOR LEADERSHIP: Lalita Patipaksiri, the lone senior, leads the team with a 75.36 scoring average after the first four tournaments.
YANG FACTOR: Redshirt freshman Michelle Yang has been a consistent player for head coach Julie Brooks. Yang has ranked first or second for the Anteaters in three of the four tournaments this fall. She was third on the team at the Wolf Pack Classic where she was 10th (152) overall.
FAB FRESHMEN: The freshman class of Michelle Yang, Brenna Carlson and Sarah Baek are ranked fourth in the country in the GolfStat Freshman Class Impact Ranking with a 76.04 scoring average.
