FULLERTON, Calif. --- The freshman sisters held their own in their fall debut for UCI.
The pair advanced to the doubles semifinals before they were knocked out.
They each played into the consolation singles round. Ali Facey managed a win over Julia Metzger of Oregon, 6-2,1-6,10-2.
Kat Facey advanced to the consolation final after a 6-3,7-6 win over Natalie McKay of UC Riverside. She would default to Morgan McIntosh of CSUF in the final.
Wins over the pairs of Jeczmionka/Rozenberg (Long Beach State) and McIntosh/Mai (Cal State Fullerton) on Saturday put Ali Facey and Kat Facey into the semifinals for doubles Sunday.
Their fellow pairs fell on Saturday. Marivick Mamiit/Brooke Schweyer lost 8-3 to Sher/Man-Son Hing of Cal State Northridge. Anna Tatsuno/Nakisa Vahdat also fell 8-3 to Skowronski/Hager of Oregon.
Ali Facey was not as fortunate in singles action. Rachel Manasse of Long Beach State ended her run in the third round, 6-2,6-2
Mamiit won her third round match ove Karolina Rozenberg (Long Beach State), 6-1,0-6,6-4, before dropping her quarterfinal match to Laura Bernard (Long Beach State, 2-6,2-6.
In consolation action, Sara Vahdat fell to Amber Walker (Cal State Northridge). Kat Facey remaining in the mix as she defeated Penn State singles, Nayanatara Vadali and Audrionna Farr, to set up a semifinal match against the winner of McIntosh/Doan Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
UCI went 3-0 in doubles action on Friday.
Marivick Mamiit/Brooke Schweyer turned aside McDonald/Spencer (Penn State), 8-0, to move on. They match up with Sher/Man-Son-Hing (CS Northridge) Saturday at 8 a.m.
Anna Tatsuno/Nakisa Vahdat put away Beaird/Johnson (Concordia University, Irvine), 8-1. They play Saturday morning at 8 a.m. against Skowronski/Hager (Oregon).
The sisters, Ali Facey/Kat Facey, were given a first-round bye. Their day tomorrow begins at 8 a.m. against Jeczmionka/Rozenberg (Long Beach State)
In singles action, three players made it to the third round on Friday. Two players were cut down in the second round; one after winning her first match, another after receiving a bye.
Brooke Schweyer won her first-round matchup against Summer Beaird (Concordia University, Irvine), 6-1, 6-0, but was upended in the second round by Patricia Skowronski (Oregon), 0-6, 1-6.
Kat Facey advanced on a first-round bye, but lost to Laura Bernard (Long Beach State), 6-4, 4-6, 2-6. Her tournament continues on the consolation side, as well, against the winner of Vadali (Penn State)/Simmons (UC Riverside) at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.
Marivick Mamiit also advanced on a first-round bye, and would defeat Kalika Slevcove (CS Fullerton), 6-1, 6-4. She will take on Karolina Rozenberg (Long Beach State) at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Nakisa Vahdat fell to Morgan Thomas (UCLA), 2-6, 2-6. She will go up against Amber Walker (CS Northridge) at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the consolation bracket.
Ali Facey advanced past Ayanna Simmons (UC Riverside), 6-0, 6-3. She continued her run with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Morgan McIntosh (CS Fullerton). Her road continues against Rachel Manasse (Long Beach State) Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Anna Tatsuno won against Lena Macomson (Oregon), but fell, 6-0, 6-0, to Manasse which would have set up a matchup of Anteaters had she moved on. Instead, she is pitted against Audrionna Farr (Penn State) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
