UCI Entertains Cal State Fullerton; Travels to UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly

THREE UP FOR 'EATERS: UC Irvine (9-12, 3-6 Big West) takes on three Big West foes this week as the Anteaters host Cal State Fullerton Tuesday (Nov. 1) in the Bren Center at 7:00 p.m. The team then travels to UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly this weekend (Nov. 4-5) with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

SQUIRES HITS SEASON-HIGH: Sophomore Aly Squires (Santa Ynez/Santa Ynez Valley Union HS) hit a season-best .400, knocking down 11 of 25 attempts with just one error to lead UCI to a sweep over Seattle. Squires had 11 kills and 11 digs with a service ace.

WINKLER REACHES 1400 DIGS: Junior Kristin Winkler (Los Altos/St. Francis HS) became the third Anteater to reach 1400 career digs after scooping up 17 against Seattle. Winkler, who now has 1,413 digs needs 79 digs to take over the No. 2 spot, currently held by Kari Pestolesi, who posted 1,491 from 2007-2010. 

TEAM NOTES

  • UCI has won three of its last five matches.
  • The Anteaters out-aced the Redhawks 7-0, led by three baseline winners from Alexandra Hauser.
  • Team is third in the Big West in ace average at 1.14.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Kristin Winkler had 17 digs in the win against Seattle.
o The third Anteater to reach 1400 career digs and has 1,413
o Ranked 39th in the country in dig average at 5.09
o Has posted double-digit digs in 19 of 21 matches
o Second in the conference in digs

 Alexandra Hauser led UCI to a 7-0 ace advantage over Seattle.
o Fifth time this season she has recorded at least three aces
o Ranked 49th in the nation in aces per set at 0.40.
o Has 29 aces to lead the team and is second in blocks with 60

Aly Squires led UCI with 11 kills to go along with 11 digs against the Redhawks.
o Hit a season-best .400, committing just one error
o Tenth double-double match (kills/digs)
o Eighth in the Big West in kill average at 3.42
o Leads the team with 260 kills and is second with 233 digs

Shaina Olsen put away 10 kills and posted six digs, three blocks and an ace
o Seventh double-figure kill match for the 'Eaters
o Has posted at least two blocks in the last three matches
o Second on the team in kills with 154 and a 2.48 average

Mary Carls totaled 11 assists and four digs for the Anteaters
o Ninth in the Big West in assist average at 7.79
o Tops the team with 592 assists

Marissa Alvarez led UCI with 18 assists to go along with three digs.
o Has posted double-figures in assists in the last five matches
o Two block assists tied a season-high

 Arielle Manz led the team with five block assists against Seattle.
o Five block assists were a season-high
o Hit .500, connecting on four of eight attempts

THE SERIES: UCI leads Cal State Fullerton 41-24 in the all-time series but the Titans won both contests last year. The Gauchos own a 64-8 mark against the Anteaters after sweeping UCI at the Bren Center. UCI swept Cal Poly earlier this year but stills trails the Mustangs, 37-19.
