UC IRVINE PLAYS EXHIBITION THURSDAY: UC Irvine will host Concordia in an exhibition game Thursday (Nov. 3) at 7:00 p.m. in the Bren Center.
UCI beat Concordia, 84-71 in an exhibition game last year at the Bren. The Anteaters had five players in double-digit scoring led by guard Kiara Belen with 18 points on 7-12 shooting from the floor. Jazmyne White added 14 points and sophomore Cheyenne Cathey recorded 12 points in the victory.
The Eagles hit 9-27 from three-point range for the game. Concordia was 16-12 overall last year.
ANTEATERS OPEN SEASON ON THE ROAD: UCI will open the regular season with three road games and will play six of the first seven contests away from Irvine. The Anteaters will travel to Portland State on Nov. 11 at 7:00 p.m. then on to the University of Portland Nov. 13 at 2:00 p.m. UCI will travel to Cal State Bakersfield Nov. 16 for a 7:00 p.m. game. UCI opens its home slate, entertaining former Big West foe Utah State Nov. 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bren Center.
UCI BEATS TOROS IN FIRST EXHIBITION: UC Irvine defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 60-35 in an exhibition game at Crawford Court last week.
The Anteaters held Cal State Dominguez Hills scoreless for the first six minutes of the game and jumped out to a 13-0 lead before the Toros hit a free throw with 13:54 remaining in the first half. UCI would lead 37-10 at halftime, holding CSUDH to 2-24 (8.3) shooting from the field.
UCI had a trio of players in double-figures led by freshman Methlyn Onogomuho with 11 points. Sophomores jasmine Bernard and Pernilla Hanson each added 10 points with Bernard grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Jacquelyn Marshall pitched in nine points and three steals. Senior Kiara Belen totaled six points and six rebounds, while senior Kassandra McCalister had six points and four assists. All 11 players saw action and recorded at least one rebound with the Anteaters holding the 48-32 advantage on the boards.
