
Powers' Hat Trick Propels USA Past Argentina at Pan Am Games

GUADALAJARA, Mexico --- UC Irvine alum Jeff Powers scored three goals to lead Team USA to a 13-7 win over Argentina in the final game of group play at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara Tuesday.
Powers netted his hat trick on four shots. Two other 'Eater greats also scored in the victory as Ryan Bailey added two goals and Tim Hutten one.
The Americans went 3-0 in group play to advance to a semifinal match-up against Cuba Thursday at Scotiabank Aquatics Center. Brazil faces Canada in the other semifinal.
Bailey has played on the last three U.S. Olympic teams, Powers the past two and Hutten was on the 2008 squad. The three alums each earned multiple All-America honors while competing for the `Eaters.
Hutten was the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Peter J. Cutino Award given annually to the top player in the NCAA.
