'Eater Alums Provide Scoring Punch in USA Win at Pan Am Games

GUADALAJARA, Mexico --- Three UC Irvine Olympic veterans provided the scoring power in Team USA's 16-3 win over Venezuela in the opening game of group play at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, Sunday.

Tim Hutten scored four goals while Ryan Bailey and Jeff Powers added three apiece in the victory.

Hutten had two extra-man goals in his four-goal day on six total shot attempts in the game.  Bailey and Powers each notched hat tricks on four shot attempts each.

The Americans led 7-0 after the first quarter and 12-2 at halftime.

The U.S. faces Brazil in group play Monday at Scotiabank Aquatics Center in Guadalajara.

Hutten was the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Peter J. Cutino Award given annually to the top player in the NCAA.

Bailey has played on the last three U.S. Olympic teams, Powers the past two and Hutten was on the 2008 squad. The three alums each earned multiple All-America honors while competing for the `Eaters.
