UC IRVINE PLAYS IN NEW MEXICO: The UC Irvine women's golf team will participate in the Price's "Give 'em Five" Intercollegiate Monday-Wednesday (Oct. 10-12) at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces.
The 16-team field includs Utah Valley State, Hawai'i, Central Arkansas, Seattle, UTEP, Cincinnati, Boise State, North Texas, Idaho, Long Beach State, Colorado State, SMU, Baylor and host New Mexico State.
The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday followed by a 7:00 a.m. shotgun start on Wednesday.
The Anteaters finished sixth last year at this event.
The UCI lineup will feature Lalita Patipaksiri, Sarah Baek, Michelle Yang, Ronnie Valerio and Taryn Yee.
BAEK BREAKS INTO THE SPOTLIGHT IN FIRST TOURNAMENT: Freshman Sarah Baek finished third in her first collegiate tournament to help the Anteaters to a second place finish at the Wolf Pack Classic at the Dayton Valley Golf Club last week.
Baek shot a 69 on the first round, which is tied for 11th in UCI's single round record book. She followed it with a 76 on the final round and finished in a tie for third with a score of 145.
The Anteaters shot a 304 on the final 18 holes and ended the tournament in second place with a score of 602, four strokes behind champion San Francisco (598). The tournament was shortened to 36 holes as the second round was canceled due to high winds.
UCI posted two more Top 10 finishes with senior Lalita Patipaksiri ending in a tie for seventh with a score of 151 (78-73) and freshman Michelle Yang tied for 10th after carding a 152 (73-79). Sophomore Ronnie Valerio was tied for 17th with a total of 154 (78-76), while sophomore Tayrn Yee was 38th at 159 (78-76).
