FIRST KICKS

+ Prior to this season, UCI had 10 players in the program's history to start 70 or more matches. Saturday night vs. CSUN, Thomas Janjigian and Michael Sperber each started their 70th match alongside each other in the starting lineup

+ UCI is 10-12-4 all-time in Titan Stadium losing just twice in its last 14 trips, it is an even 2-2-1 against the Titans under coach Volk with a shutout being registered in all five contests

+ The 'Eaters are 12-4-2 against CSUF in the opener of a season series

+ CSUF's defense has not allowed UCI to score in its last 295 minutes

+ UCI is unbeaten in seven of its last eight matches (6-1-1) at CSUN

+ Saturday's 4-3 match marked the first UCI-CSUN match without a shutout since 2013

+ The 'Eaters entered divisional play with three points. In the previous four years, UCI earned more points twice (7 - 2014, 6 - 2013) and less the other two (1 - 2015, 0 - 2012)

+ The Anteaters' non-conference schedule has been deemed the 26th-toughest in the nation

Ivan Canales scored his first career brace Saturday vs. CSUN and now has seven points in his last three matches to make him the team's active career leader in points (22) and goals (7)

+ Janjigian and Canales are 2 of 7 players with three assists in Big West matches

+ Nine current Anteaters have a game-winning goal in their career, the only to score multiples is Mario Ortiz with three

Felipe Silva added his first career assist and point in the 4-3 win Saturday night

+ The Anteaters lead the conference in assists per goal with 1.2, the two other schools with a ratio of one or better are Sac State (1.12) and UCR (1.04)

+ The 'Eaters would be eliminated from Big West Tournament contention with two losses this week coupled with two losses by UC Riverside

LAST TIME OUT

Big West South play began with a dud falling 3-0 at UC Riverside Wednesday night. An early goal was negated from an offside call which really switched the momentum early, and UCR capitalized with goal in the 24th, 28th, and 42nd minutes to take hold of the match despite 22 shots from the 'Eaters and eight on target.

Play exploded on Saturday night in a return to Anteater Stadium. UCI came back from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to take a 3-2 lead into the half. After CSUN leveled things up early in the second half, a Jose Ortiz shot would prove to be the game-winner in a whirlwind of a match, 4-3. Three Anteater recorded a goal and an assist, Ortiz, Ivan Canales, and Thomas Janjigian with Canales scoring twice for the first time in his career.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

UCI travels to Fullerton Wednesday night with each team looking to plant a firm foot in the Big West standings. CSUF had close non-conference calls at Vermont, UCLA, and Santa Clara while winning most recently vs. UC Riverside to stop a string of three winless conference matches. CSUF stands with seven points, one behind second place CSUN and one ahead of charging UCI. Both squads have deposited 17 goals in 15 games as senior Alex Heilmann has stepped up for eight of them. Sophomore Ronaldo Pineda and junior Robert Coronado pace the offense with 30+ shots each. David Elias has stepped in for four of the six Big West matches and 10 saves in five matches this year. Paul-Andre Guerin is 4-6 in 10 matches as a freshman.

The final regular season road match comes Saturday at CSUN. The Matadors will look to regroup at UC Riverside Wednesday before avenging their loss to UC Irvine. Forward Bar Shem Tov was instrumental in last match scoring his third goal. Jumoke Hutton will be back from a red card suspension as he provided crisp passing resulting in an assist Saturday night. CSUN has allowed 77 more shots than its taken which was evidenced Saturday night, and keeper Kevin Marquez will be up to the task after four saves last match and 73 for the year.

NOTEBOOK

Road Rage

The Anteaters play their final two road matches of the season this week. The team is 2-6 away from Anteater Stadium this season. Under Volk, the squad has gone 13-19-3 away from home. UCI actually had a better road record in conference last season (2-3) than during its 2014 NCAA Tournament season (1-3-1)

Seven Up

UCI won 4-3 Saturday, the fourth match with as many as four goals under coach Volk. Its last 4-3 win came in November of 2005. The last two games with seven total goals were losses for the Anteaters, both by counts of 4-3 vs. UC Riverside (2012) and at UCLA (2015). It was also the first instance with three goals in the first half since Sept. 11, 2014 in a 3-2 win at West Virginia. The first time it was done at home was October of 2010 as part of a five-goal half where UCI beat CSUF, 7-2

Point Taken

UCI has earned six of 18 possible Big West points with 18 possible points remaining out there. Since the Big West was split into divisions, the lowest number of points to make the tournament has been nine from UC Riverside in 2012. The average number of points from a third place team in the four years has been 12.1

Over Bearing

UCI has yet to reach overtime in 2016 despite eight overtime matches in 2015. UCI's first 15 matches this season have all ended in regulation. The 1993 Anteaters hold the record playing 18 matches until its first OT.

THROW-INS

+ UCI leads the conference averaging six shots on goal per match which ranks 44th in the nation

+ UCI has been called offside 42 times this season to lead the Big West (CSUN - 40)

+ The 'Eaters have attempted 106 shots in Big West matches, 20 more than the next team (UC Davis - 86)

+ UCI has outshot its opponents by 10 or more shots in a game three times a season in each season since 2014 after outshooting UCR and CSUN by 11 and 10 shots last week, respectively

+ The 'Eaters have earned 40 corner kicks in Big West matches, 12 more than the next team (CSUF - 28)

+ UCI earned 12 corner kicks in the Sept. 29 loss to Sacramento State, the most at home since it earned 12 on Sept. 2, 2012 vs. Detroit

+ UCI was called offside 10 times at Oregon State, the most in the last three years eclipsing the nine vs. CSUF in 2013

+ Seven of the Anteaters' 11 goals this year have come in the second half. Under Volk, the team has scored just 22 of their 71 goals in the first half. All 11 goals have come in a different minute in the match

Giovanni Godoy scored his first career goal on a penalty kick vs. Portland, it was the first successful PK goal for the 'Eaters since October 22, 2014 scored by Eduardo Calzada

Alex Waldron's penalty kick save in the 75th minute against Oregon State marks the second PK save in the last four chances for UCI keepers - Elliot Farmer saved a PK attempt vs. CSUN in the 89th minute of their match at UC Irvine in 2015

+ Farmer and Waldron have each started at least six matches and put in over 500 minutes. The last time two keepers played as much in a season was 2009 when Andrew Fontein and Victor Chinchilla each started 11 matches and logged nearly 1,000 minutes
