Chelsea Pfohl joined UC Irvine Athletics in September 2026 as Assistant Athletic Director, Media Relations, leading media relations and storytelling efforts across Anteater Athletics. She brings more than eight years of NCAA Division I athletics communications experience spanning media relations, strategic storytelling, crisis communications, executive communications and external engagement.
Prior to joining UCI, Pfohl served as Assistant Athletics Director of Communications at Long Beach State and Executive Analyst and Coordinator to the Athletics Director at UC Riverside. Her work has focused on elevating the stories and visibility of student-athletes and programs while connecting communications with broader goals around fan engagement, brand development, fundraising and revenue generation.
Pfohl began her collegiate athletics career as a Sports Information DirectorΒ at Hope International University. Her career also includes experience in photography, event production and interactive technology, including work with The American Museum of Natural History, MVS Studio and Milk Studios.
Pfohl earned a MasterβsΒ in Interactive Telecommunications and a BFAΒ in Studio Art from New York University. A former collegiate swimmer, she was a three-time NCAA All-American, NCAA finalist, conference champion and record holder while competing for the NYU varsity swim team.
