• Finished 17th in the 10000m (32:38.41) and 20th in the 5000m (15:33.80) at the Big West Championships
• Established a personal-record 30:51.08 in the 10K at the Mt. SAC Relays
• Ran a career-best 3:56.91 in the 1500m at the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational
• Added a 5000m season-best 14:50.75 at the UCI Spring Break Invitational 

2013 (Junior)
• Registered a lifetime-best 8:29.10 in the 3000m at the UCI Spring Break Classic

2012 (Sophomore)
• Earned All-Big West honors in the 10000m
• Finished third at the conference championships with a season-best 31:37.02
• Also came in 13th in the 5000m at the Big West meet (14:59.99)
• Took third in the 3000m with a time of 8:29.79 at the Big West Challenge Cup
• Placed third in the 10000m at the Cal-Nevada Championships 
• Had UCI's top time of the season in the 5000m, clocking in at 14:34.77 at the Steve Scott Invitational

2011 (Freshman)
• Scored at the Big West Championships with an eighth-place showing in the 5000m (14:47.22)
• Took ninth in the 10000m with a season-best 30:59.74 at the conference meet
• Notched a season-best 14:35.70 in the 5K at the Mt. SAC Relays
• Came in third in the 3000m at the Big West Challenge (8:29.79)

High School
• Graduated from Eastside High School in 2010
• Competed in track, cross country and soccer
• Claimed the Golden League title in the 3200m as a junior and in the 1500m as a senior
• Earned All-CIF honors in cross country
• Won the individual league championship in 2009

Personal
• Majoring in informatics
• All-Big West performer in cross country, finishing fourth overall at the 2012 conference championships
• Parents are Yolanda and Albert Melena
• Has three siblings, Jose, David and Guillermo
