Owen McGregor, an Arizona State University graduate, is in his first season at UC Irvine, assisting in coaching the sprints, jumps, hurdles and multi-event athletes.
Prior to joining the UCI staff, McGregor was the assistant track and field/cross country coach at Florida Atlantic University, where he spent four years developing the sprint, hurdle and jump group to the top of the Sun Belt Conference.
Before his stint at FAU, McGregor was head track and field/cross country coach for the men's and women's programs at Phoenix College. McGregor joined Phoenix College in 2005 as an assistant head track and field coach and was promoted to head coach in 2006.
Prior to his arrival at Phoenix College, McGregor spent a year at Central Arizona College as an assistant coach.  In 2005, Central Arizona’s men's and women's teams won the regional championship in Mesa, Arizona.  The men's track and field team went on to win the National NJCAA Championships and the women’s program was runner-up.
After spending 2002-04 as an assistant at Arizona State University as part of the college's post-graduate program, he helped coach world champions and Olympians.
Before he joined the collegiate ranks, McGregor spent six years as a coach at the high school level, coaching many California and Arizona regional and state champions. Â In addition, McGregor has acted as a member of the personal coaching staffs for several athletes who have moved on to Division I track programs, the Olympics, World Championships, Pan American and CAC teams.
McGregor attended St. Andrew Technical High School in Kingston, Jamaica, where he was coached by Ron Horsham. Â He received the Best Student-Athlete Award three consecutive years in track and field.
In 1984, as a high school athlete, he ran the one of the fastest time in the Caribbean Islands in the 400 meters.  In addition, McGregor competed on  Jamaica's National and Junior National Teams where he was a silver medalist in the 200 meters and 400 meters.  He ran the anchor leg on the gold-medal winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams at the CARIFTA Games. McGregor anchored his high school 4x100 relay team to first place at the Penn Relays.  He also finished fourth in the 200 meters, third in the 4x100 relay and second in the 4x400 relay at the Pan American Games.  He also finished sixth in the 200 meters at the Olympic Trials.
McGregor's collegiate career includes a year at Central Arizona JC. He was a seven-time All-American, including a four-time member of the first team.
He is on the Top 10 lists in the 100 meters and 4x400 relay at the University of Florida.
McGregor later transferred to Arizona State University, where he competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters, and anchored the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.
