LAS VEGAS - UC Irvine women's volleyball fell to UNLV, 3-1 (18-25, 25-16, 22-25, 19-25), in their final non-conference match Saturday afternoon at The Pavilion.

On the second day of The Rebel Challenge, the Anteaters came alive in set two with the largest margin of victory in the match. They were unable to keep the momentum as tournament host UNLV (3-7) responded for its second-straight win.

BY THE NUMBERS: Junior outside Madison Triplett led the 'Eaters with a team-high 16 kills on .224 hitting. Triplett also had seven digs.

Junior libero Whitney Wallace led all players with 25 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Tata Vongfak added 10 digs.

Senior setter Nicole Feliciano had an impressive all-around performance with 24 assists, seven digs, three kills, three aces, and two blocks.

Jaida Harris paced the Rebels with 19 kills and 12 digs, while Kamryn Scroggins tallied 30 assists and 20 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The match started with a solo block from UC Irvine freshman Memphis Burnett, but UNLV scored the next four points. The Rebels stayed out front and went up by as many as nine before the Anteaters made a late push with a 4-0 spurt that included two kills from Triplett. UNLV then sided out and took the opening set, 25-18.

The 'Eaters (2-9) used a 6-0 rally in the second set to pull ahead, 11-4. Triplett had two kills and Vongfak had two aces during that stretch. UCI led by at least six the rest of the way in a dominant 25-16 victory. UC Irvine put the pressure on the home team from the service line with seven aces in the frame.

UNLV held the early advantage in the third and extended its margin to five, which was its largest of the set, at 18-13. The 'Eaters then reeled off five consecutive points, capped by a dig kill from Wallace, to tie it up at 18-all. After the Rebels sided out, back-to-back kills from Burnett and Brianna Brewer gave UCI a 20-19 lead. The seesaw battle continued until UNLV scored the final three points for the 25-22 win.

The Rebels carried the momentum into set four where they raced out to a 12-6 lead. The two teams proceeded to trade points until blocks from Boice and Feliciano started a 4-0 spurt that cut the Anteaters' deficit in half (17-13). UNLV then scored the next two points and continued on a 10-5 run to end the set and match at 25-19.

UP NEXT: UC Irvine is back at the Bren Events Center for its Big West opener against Black & Blue Rival Long Beach State on Friday, Sept. 25.
