'Eaters Finish 11th at UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Irvine men's cross country finished 11th in the UC Riverside Invitational 8K Invite Saturday morning at the Ag/Ops Course.
In his season debut, junior Juan Chantaca led the Anteaters with a time of 24:01.6. He placed 16th out of 219. It was his third-straight top-20 showing at the UCR Invitational after finishing 17th in 2024 and fourth in 2025 when he ran a school-record 23:38.4.
Sophomore Javin Schmitt was next across the line for the 'Eaters in 53rd. Schmitt clocked in at 24:39.6, beating his previous 8K best by over 90 seconds. Sophomore Ziyad Abdallah wasn't far behind in 55th with a PR 24:41.0.
UC Irvine's five freshmen all competed in their first career 8K race. Nathan Wilber was the Anteaters' No. 4 runner, coming in at 25:07.4. He was followed by Owen Souther (25:17.6), Aiden Zavala (25:35.3), Braulio Castillo (25:36.0), and Nolan Calder (25:56.2). Senior Jimmy Markowicz was also among UCI's top-seven at 25:19.0.
UC Irvine will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Oregon.
