IRVINE, Calif. – Dropping a weekend match on the road, UC Irvine women's tennis (12-8, 3-5) fell to Long Beach State 5-2 on Saturday.

Doubles play against LBSU ended swiftly after UCI dropped the No. 2 line and No. 1 line matchups respectively, going down 1-0 early and leaving Bella Pitchford and Haily Huynh's No. 3 line matchup unfinished.

In singles play, UCI faltered in a series of close matches. To start singles, UCI lost on the No. 2 line to go down two points, but claimed a victory via a Carolyna Fowler win on the No. 3 line. Winning the next two matches in three sets on the No. 5 and No. 1 lines, Long Beach State (12-10, 5-4) claimed the overall victory for the day. Despite the early clinch, the Anteaters and Beach continued playing singles — resulting in H. Huynh winning her singles match in three sets and claiming another point for UCI in the 5-2 loss. 

All matches Saturday except UCI's No. 2 line matchup went the distance, ending in three sets with two tiebreakers deciding sets on the No. 6 line.
