Anteaters Set Five Season Bests and Two PRs on Saturday

WALNUT, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team wrapped up action at the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
 
Brandon Burns, Justin Johnson, Logan Lyght, and Brendan Clark combined for the second-fastest 4x100 relay in program history at 39.95. The quartet also holds the school record at 39.84 which they set at the Vince O'Boyle Classic on March 28. They are UCI's only 4x100 to run a sub-40 second race.
 
Johnson added a season-best 20.72 in the 200m.
 
 
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Anteaters closed out the Beach Invitational Saturday at Jack Rose Track.
 
Joe Duggan led the way with a personal-record 17.53 meters (57-6.25) in the shot put. He finished ninth out of 60 and cracked UC Irvine's all-time top-10 at No. 8.
 
Chimobi Onye paced a trio of 'Eaters in the discus with a lifetime-best 51.44m (168-9). Onye had a top-20 showing in a field of 64.
 
Kenechukwu Okonkwo claimed runner-up honors in the triple jump with a season-best 15.64m (51-3.75). Okonkwo's mark ranks among the top-20 in the West Region.
 
Jerry Roberts (7.02m/23-0.5) and Caden Matsumoto (6.91m/22-8) added season bests in the long jump.

AJ Taylor took eighth in the 110m hurdles in a wind-aided 14.45.
 
 
AZUSA, Calif. - UC Irvine competed in the 1500m on the third and final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational at Cougar Athletic Stadium.
 
In the final race of the evening (Group A), Joshua Schuld crossed the finish line in 3:51.46.

Javin Schmitt (3:54.99) and Juan Chantaca (3:59.51) were both in the Open B section, while Jimmy Markowicz clocked a season-best 4:01.23 in Group C.
 
UC Irvine will be back in action in two weeks when it hosts the Steve Scott Invitational, May 1-2.
