Bartz Breaks 100m School Record at Pacific Coast Invitational

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Senior Samantha Bartz broke the 100m school record to kick off a busy week for the UC Irvine women's track & field team Thursday at the Pacific Coast Invitational in Long Beach.

Bartz was the 100m runner-up in a field of 85 sprinters with a time of 11.43. She shaved .17 seconds off her personal best and topped UCI's previous standard of 11.48 that was set by Olympian Persis William-Mensah in 2018. It was the fifth school record the Anteater women have taken down this season.

Junior Halle Sutherland was 13th (11.66) in the 100m, while junior Faith McLeary clocked a wind-aided PR 12.06.

Sophomores Ihe Okoh (24.62) and Mikah Longcob (25.37) both notched wind-aided lifetime bests in the 200m.

Senior Esmeray Demirbas cleared a season-best 1.73m (5-8) to tie for second in the high jump.

Senior Nyla Baker was UCI's top finisher in the shot put (14.70m/48-2.75) and discus (49.55m/162-6).

Junior Sarah Ajayi also led the 'Eaters in the 100m hurdles (14.39), while senior DeAna Davis competed in the hammer (56.26m/184-7).

Over in Azusa, sophomore Breckyn Kornachuk established a nearly 12-second personal-record 10:47.75 in the steeplechase on the first day of the Bryan Clay Invitational. Kornachuk moved up two spots to No. 7 in program history.
