Katherine Gerbing Paces UC Irvine At Silicon Valley Showcase

UC Irvine led the tournament field in pars and ended in a tie for fifth place at the Silicon Valley Showcase held at the Green Hills Country Club Tuesday.
The Anteaters shot a 54-hole total of 887 (289-298-300) on the strength of 165 pars and 29 birdies.
Sophomore Katherine Gerbing posted her best performance of the season and second Top 10 finish of the year coming in a tie for ninth place with a three-round score of 218 (71-73-74). Gerbing and sophomore Alona Avery were consistent with 37 pars each, while Gerbing matched HaYoung Lee for the team lead in birdies with seven. Gerbing ranked fourth among players on Par 4 scoring at 4.03.
Avery ended in a tie for 16th with a score of 221 (73-72-76), while graduate student Jenny Chang was tied for 29th with a total of 225 (73-78-74). Senior Kiana Briggs was tied for 44th at 233 (72-83-76) and Lee was tied for 49th with a score of 233 (76-75-82).
This was the final regular season tournament for the Anteaters as they wait for the Big West Championships Apr. 19-21 at the Ka'anapali Golf Course on Maui, Hawai'i.
