IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine men's basketball players
Derin Saran and
Harrison Carrington have been named to the 2025-26 Academic All-District® Men's Basketball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. Student-athletes also must have played in 90% of the team's games or started 66% of them at the nomination deadline.
It is the first recognition for each of the student-athletes who are both political sciences majors.
Saran was named All-Big West honorable mention after averaging 11.5 points per game. He ranked third in steals (1.7), eighth in assists (3.4) and 15
th in rebounding (5.3) average among Big West players. The guard became the first Anteater to record a triple-double with 20 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds in the victory Lincoln. He poured in a career-high 29 points versus Northern Iowa, the most by a UCI player this season. He ended the year earning Big West Championship All-Tournament team honors.
Carrington averaged 8.5 points and 3.8 rebounds on the year. The forward recorded double-figure points 16 times this season, including a career-high 19 versus Lincoln. He shot .600 or better from the field 15 times this season and pulled down a rebound in every game but one. He added 31 assists, 20 steals and five blocks overall.
UC Irvine was the Big West regular season champions for the 10
th time in program history and competed in the NIT for the fourth consecutive year.
