SAN DIEGO, Calif. – UC Irvine went low on the first round and are in second place after the first day of the San Diego State Classic at the Heights Country Club.
The Anteaters shot a first round of 284 which is tied for the fifth lowest in school history. They ended the day with a round of 294 for a total of 578.
UC Irvine sits in second, nine shots behind Cal State Fullerton (569) heading into the final round.
UCI was led by graduate student
Jenny Chang who posted a career-best 68 on the first round and is in second with a score of 139, two behind Fullerton's Katharina Zeilinger.
Sophomore
Katelyn Kong is tied for eighth with a score of 143 970-73) followed by sophomore
Alona Avery who is tied for 21
st at 147 (70-77), senior
Kiana Briggs in a tie for 28
th with a two-round score of 149 (76-73). Freshman
Chelsie Chin is tied for 56
th with a score of 158 (79-79).
The tournament concludes tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.
