IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine women's tennis (2-3, 0-1) took down Chapman (1-1) on the road in Orange, Calif. on Thursday, winning 7-0.
UCI dominated its fellow Orange County opponent on Thursday, not dropping a single set and cruising to wins on all three lines of doubles play and all six lines of singles play.
The Anteaters opened the day strong, with a 6-0 doubles victory from Sayuri Parandian/Bella Pitchford coming before Maily Huynh/Quin Brady combined for another 6-0 doubles win, clinching Thursday's doubles point. After UCI had claimed the point, Yen Nhi Huynh and Haily Huynh finished off a 6-2 doubles win to send the Anteaters into singles play with extra momentum.
In the day's singles matches, UCI's domination continued. Y. Huynh won the day's first singles point, winning on the No. 1 line in two sets (6-0, 6-0) to kick off an avalanche of UCI victories. Then, H. Huynh (No. 2 line) and Pitchford (No. 3 line) both won their matches to secure UCI's third and match-clinching fourth point of the day.
Despite the early clinch, UC Irvine and Chapman continued play — singles victories for M. Huynh, Parandian and Mackenzie Lukin closed the day's official matches on a dominant Thursday for the Anteaters. The wins by Parandian and Lukin served as the freshman pair's first career dual match season singles victories.
The day's exhibitions were also won by UCI; Lukin/Ani Vanetsyan claimed a 6-1 win in a doubles exhibition while Vanetsyan and Lindsay Kim both played single-set singles exhibitions, winning 6-0 in both matchups.
The Anteaters will close their four-game road stretch on Monday (Feb. 16) when UCI resumes Big West play against Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif.

These matches are meant to help us get reps finding our opponents' thresholds and weaknesses and then relentlessly exploit them so we are ready for our tough conference matches. Many of us played that way from beginning to end. There were some moments where we played a self indulgent style which played right into our opponents strengths. We did a good job of taking the coaching in and getting right back on track."
