
Wallace, Boice Earn Big West Player of the Week Honors

IRVINE, Calif. - Junior Whitney Wallace earned her second Big West Defensive Player of the Week award, while freshman Taylor Boice was named the Big West Rookie of the Week the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Wallace and Boice were recognized after helping UC Irvine extend its win streak to three with a 3-1 victory at UC Riverside and a reverse sweep at California Baptist.

Wallace averaged 4.56 digs per set in the two wins. She led all players in digs in both outings, finishing with 17 at UCR and 24 against CBU. The 5-foot-9 libero has recorded 10+ digs in 12 consecutive matches and notched her sixth 20+ dig effort of the season. On the year, Wallace ranks second in the Big West with 4.14 digs per set. Wallace was previously named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21.

Boice averaged 2.61 points, 2.11 kills, and 0.78 blocks per set last weekend. She put down a match-high 12 kills in the four-set victory against the Highlanders. The 6-foot-1 middle hit .381 while adding four blocks and two digs. She came back the next day with seven kills and three blocks in the 3-2 win over the Lancers. For the season, Boice leads the Anteaters in kills (2.44/set), hitting percentage (.290), and blocks (0.93/set). This is Boice's first career weekly award.

The 'Eaters will look to continue their winning ways this week when they return to the Bren Events Center to host new Big West foes Utah Valley (Oct. 9) and Sacramento State (Oct. 10).
