IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's tennis team opened action at the Big West Fall Selection Event with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles.
The Anteaters opened doubles play with one victory, as Kara Chen and Rachel Gee cruised past Cal Poly's O. Mlouk/T. Jakupovic-Kljako, 8-1. Maily Huynh and Sayuri Parandian fell to Sacramento State's C. Walker/I. Riva, 8-1, while Montana Parkinson and Bella Pitchford dropped an 8-4 decision to Cal State Fullerton's M. Puvill/M. Ramos Garcia. Polina Jorniak and Mackenzie Lukin also came up short, falling to UC Santa Barbara's K. Vayser/M. Holmes, 8-3.
Chen and Gee advanced to the Round of 16, where they fell to UC San Diego's , O. Allegre/N. Gurur, 8-4.
Singles action saw the 'Eaters pick up two victories. Montana Parkinson made an impressive Anteater debut, defeating CSUN's Ruby VanCott, 6-0, 6-3. Kara Chen also earned a win, defeating CSUN's Annette Robertson, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
Mackenzie Lukin fell to CSUN's Satsuki Ishikawa, 6-4, 6-0, while Lindsay Kim was defeated by Cal State Fullerton's Seha Yu, 6-1, 6-2. Sayuri Parandian dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Cal Poly's Natalie Lynch, Bella Pitchford fell to Long Beach State's Cecilia Costa, 6-2, 6-4, and Maily Huynh was defeated by Cal State Fullerton's Martina Markov, 6-0, 6-2.
UC Irvine continues play at the Big West Fall Selection Event on Friday, with Montana Parkinson advancing to the Round of 32, where she will face Cal State Fullerton's Dana Kunza. Kara Chen will also compete in the Round of 32, taking on CSUN's Sonya Goldberg.
