IRVINE, Calif. – No. 5 UC Irvine improved to 8-0 with a 3-1 victory (27-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-13) over No. 16 Stanford at the Bren Events Center Friday night.

Opposite William D'Arcy led UCI with 16 kills followed by outside hitter Andrej Jokanovic with 15. D'Arcy totaled a season-high eight digs and a career-high five block assists, while Jokanovic had a career-best four block assists and two aces.

The Anteaters out-blocked (12.0-8.5) and out-hit (.333-.183) the Cardinal. Middle blocker Beck Weber hit .714  with a career-high five kills in seven swings and a career-tying eight block assists. His eight blocks are tied for second most among Big West players this season.

FIRST SET

>Andon Kiriakou rolled a shot over and to the floor to tie the set at 22s
>Stanford would get to set point, 24-23 before UCI flipped the script with a kill by D'Arcy and a block by Jokanovic and Weber, 25-24

SECOND SET
>Stanford once again had the early 3-0 lead and built a 10-5 advantage for the second consecutive set
>Kills by Cameron Kosty and D'Arcy and an attack error by Stanford drew UCI to 8-11
>Three in a row by UCI on a block assist and kill by Weber and an ace by Jokanovic inched the Anteaters to 11-13
>A 3-1 run that included a huge block by Jokanovic and Weber on the left side and an ace by Kosty tied the set at 18 all
>Stanford had a pair of kills to move back out 21-19
>D'Arcy and Jokanovic crushed back-to-back kills to tie the set again at 22-22
>After trading service errors, Stanford closed out the set with a kill and service ace, 25-23

THIRD SET
>UCI was flying around making plays to start the set 6-1. Kiriakou and Trevor Clark each had a pair of kills in the run
>A block by Weber and Kiriakou increased the lead to 8-2
>Stanford had a 4-1 run and closed within 6-9 before Weber restored order with a kill and block assist, 12-6
>An ace by Micah Tumas made the score 22-17
>A kill by Kiriakou ended the set 25-20

FOURTH SET
>Kosty tapped it down for a kill before Jokanovic knocked it off a Stanford player on his way to the floor, 3-1   
>Four in a row by UCI, three Stanford errors and an ace by D'Arcy, extended the lead to 10-5
>Kosty had a one handed set to the back of the court then D'Arcy had a kill out of the back row, 14-8
>An ace by Kosty, solo block by Clark, Stanford error and a kill by Jokanovic upped the margin to 19-9
>A Stanford service error ended the match, 25-13

>UCI recorded blocks in double-digits for the second consecutive match and third time this season
>Weber has rejected 13 blocks over the last two matches
