No. 20 UC Irvine Falls at California Baptist

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer fell for a second straight match by a count of 2-0 Monday night at CBU Soccer Stadium to California Baptist.

Set In Stone
  • The match opened with the 'Eaters posting the first two shots in the sixth and eighth minutes
  • CBU got on the board with their first real chance in the 22nd minute
    • The Lancers lined up for a free kick that hit the crossbar and rebounded out front with CBU's Drew Hardin winning the race to the rebound and knocking it in for a 1-0 lead
  • The 'Eaters looked to respond with three shots within a minute of the goal including Travis Babineau with one blocked and a second chance knocked away by the Lancer backline
  • California Baptist added to their lead getting a penalty chance in the 30th minute and finishing for a 2-0 lead that they took into the halftime break
Not In The Cards
  • The second half started the Anteaters way with some big chances. Cristian Gallo got on the end of a cross sending it toward the upper left before it was knocked away. The ensuing corner kick bled through to Isaac Powell whose low-lining return went high.
  • The cautions began to add up with three in a five-minute span, two to Anteaters Elijah Juge and Shane Kaemerle.
  • UC Irvine continued to drive forward challenging CBU keeper Hugo do Rego who made five saves, four in the second half. Meanwhile, the Lancers kept putting up shots, but none on target outside of the two first-half goals
  • The best chance for the Anteaters came in the 83rd minute as Hunny Yoo found space just inside the box, and he turned and fired for the Lancer keeper to make a cross-body snag. Misael Gonzalez Lopez followed up all alone in the 87th minute on the left wing denied as well by the keeper.
California Baptist 2, UC Irvine 0
