SET PIECES

11th - The Anteater coaching staff of Scott Juniper, P.J. Woolridge, and Danielle de Seriere are together for their 11th season

· Anteaters finished their opening week in the state of Arizona with a split
+ UCI won the opener at GCU for its fourth straight season winning the season opener. The 'Eaters scored first in the sixth minute, went into the half even, 1-1, and scored three times in 12 minutes to pull away for a 4-1 victory, the team's most goals since October 2023
+ The Sunday finale at Big XII opponent Arizona was a battle for 88 minutes scoreless at 0-0. The Wildcats converted on an awarded corner kick with 95 seconds left in the match to swipe the victory. UCI stopped four shots on defense and committed just two fouls in the match
· Eight Anteaters made their debuts for UC Irvine last week. Three appeared in each starting lineup - Ariane Haysman Boaler, Trinity Morales, and Fiona Shin. Shin was the lone freshman making her debut as a starter. She was joined by true freshmen Sophia Speziale, Mara Cochon, Gianna Costello, and second-year freshmen Amelia Sitton and Alissey Fang
· Many Anteaters put up firsts out in Arizona. Shin scored her first goal and point going down as the game-winner Thursday. Kori Pickelle followed her with her first goal and point. Morales played back in her home state and delivered her first goal and point Thursday for UCI, first collegiate point since 2022.
· Laurynn Ziller got the call in net for her first career starts. Thursday she picked up her first career win while collecting seven total saves on the weekend. Ziller was joined by Haysman Boaler, Shin, and Ella Colombini starting for the very first times in their collegiate career.
· Other contributions included assists from Mia Colombini and Milan Heisdorf each on Thursday. Colombini recorded her first career three-point match, and nearly set up another on Sunday

Thursday at the Toreros
· UC Irvine and San Diego are back for a 26th all-time matchup. The Toreros are up all-time, 13-9-2, and recently with a 2-0-1 record in the last three meetings
· Last season was a visit to Anteater Stadium with the sides drawing, 1-1. Goalscorer Olivia Jandreski returns as does keeper Ilise Medrano and her six saves. UCI even things up in the 22nd minute from Laila El Behery and finished with edges in shots, 18-4, and corners, 7-0
· The Toreros have played just one match, a 3-3 home draw with Cal Poly which USD even the match three different times when trailed by a goal. Freshman Amanda Anders scored twice.

Sunday vs. the Huskies
· UC Irvine and Washington play for a second straight season and 10th time all-time. UCI has lost all nine previous meetings with four of them falling by a single goal, twice in overtime. The Huskies began 2025 with a 1-1 draw vs. Oregon State before winning 4-0 vs. Idaho, and finish their season-opening homestand vs. Long Beach State Thursday before traveling
· This matchup is back in Anteater Stadium since the 2010 NCAA Sweet Sixteen battle between the squads that featured a UCI red card and Husky double overtime game-winner.
· Sunday's matchup will have even more significance in UCI's Cancer Awareness Match. UCI senior Jenika Davis is two years clear from her Acute Myeloid Leukemia diagnosis. After returning for a match in 2024, she's back and contributing in each of last week's matches. She along with UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge are continuing their fight against and support for cancer awareness coinciding with Washington's own cancer fight, senior goalie Mia Hamant who was diagnosed with a rare Stage 4 SMARCB1-deficient kidney cancer.
