'Eaters Among Top Four After Day 1 of Big West Heptathlon

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Jolie Robinson and Jazzmine Davis are both among the top-four after the first day of the Big West Heptathlon Friday at Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track.
 
Robinson, the two-time defending Big West champion, racked up 3,309 points, which is ahead of her day one total from the Bryan Clay Multis where she set a personal record. Robinson is currently second as she is 180 points behind LBSU's Claudine Raud-Gumiel through four events. Davis is also fourth with 3,195 points.
 
In the first event of the afternoon, Robinson clocked a wind-aided personal-record 14.24 seconds in the 100m hurdles. She then made it through four rounds of the high jump, ultimately clearing the bar at 1.60 meters (5-3) on her final attempt. In the shot put, Robinson saw an improvement in each round, finishing with a best of 13.11m (43-0.25) to top the field. She wrapped up the day with a wind-aided 24.93 in the 200m.
 
Davis opened the meet with a wind-aided 13.74 in the 100m hurdles. Her time was the second-fastest in the competition. She then finished the high jump at 1.51 meters (4-11.5). In the shot put, Davis took third with a toss of 11.23m (36-10.25), which was just shy of her lifetime best. She then closed out the afternoon with a wind-aided personal-record 24.45 to lead the field in the 200m.
 
The remainder of the heptathlon will be contested tomorrow with the long jump, javelin and 800m. Action gets underway at 1 p.m. at Jack Rose Track.
