IRVINE, Calif. – Senior
Noah Zamora has been named the Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Â
This is Zamora's second weekly honor of the season and fourth of his career.
Â
Zamora was recognized after closing out the regular season with his fifth-straight singles win. In a match between the 2022 co-Big West Freshman of the Year award winners, it was Zamora who got the best of UC Davis' Ryan Torres, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, at the top of the lineup.
Â
Zamora has dominated the conference since his arrival at UC Irvine as he extended his dual match singles unbeaten streak against Big West opponents to 29 consecutive matches. He is 21-0 with eight contests that went unfinished during that stretch. In his four years, the San Diego native owns a remarkable 22-1 Big West record with his only loss coming back on April 3, 2022. This season, he is 10-4, all at No. 1, and is 4-0 in Big West play.
Â
Zamora's singles victory helped the Anteaters to a 4-2 win over UC Davis to clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Big West Championships (April 25-27). UCI will open the tournament against seventh-seeded UC Riverside in Friday's quarterfinal round. First serve is set for 9 a.m. at Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
