Anteaters Wrap up Thursday Action in Long Beach and Azusa

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team competed in the Pacific Coast Invitational Thursday at Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track.
 
Halle Sutherland placed third out of 74 in the 100m with a time of 11.67 seconds. Sutherland has come in under 11.70 in all four of her 100m races this season.
 
Kaitlene Ofilan paced four Anteaters in the 800m where she clocked a personal-record 2:16.57. Arden Keeton (2:18.34) and Malia Leupold (2:18.71) also notched lifetime bests, while Sophie Lopez was .43 seconds shy of her PR.
 
Lauren Aquino was UCI's top finisher in the 400m as she was 12th in a field of 30 athletes (56.90).
 
All four 'Eaters in the 200m ran a wind-aided season best. Ihe Okoh led the way with a time of 25.02 seconds. Tatiana Sprock (25.52) and Mikah Longcob (25.56) were next across the line for UC Irvine, while Amelia Trautman (25.70) rounded out the quartet.
 
In the field events, Nyla Baker was the Anteaters' top performer in the shot put (10th, 14.71m) and discus (13th, 47.85m). DeAna Davis also took 13th out of 36 in the hammer throw (56.06m).
 
 
AZUSA, Calif. - Five Anteaters were in action on the second day of the Bryan Clay Invitational Thursday at Cougar Stadium.
 
Malia Gay crossed the finish line in 2:06.33 to place 21st in a field of 127 athletes in the 800m Invite. Gay was .12 seconds off her personal record that she set two weeks ago at the Triton Invitational. Luz Mercado also came in 32nd at 2:07.11.
 
Makena Castillo led the 'Eaters in the 800m Open with a lifetime-best 2:11.61. Nicole Contreras added a season-best 2:15.88.
 
Liana Lee also ran the 5000m (17:37.93).
 
UC Irvine will close out action at the Bryan Clay Invitational tomorrow in the 1500m. The Anteaters are also set to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invitational on Friday.
