Nguyen Named Big West Player of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Sophomore Andy Nguyen has been named the Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Nguyen was recognized after going undefeated without dropping a set in UC Irvine's three wins. Last Monday, he was first off the court in singles and doubles to set the tone in a 4-0 victory over Temple. He teamed up with Noah Zamora to defeat Adam Kresina/Martim Marujo, 6-3, at No. 1, before making quick work of Marujo, 6-3, 6-0, in his second career appearance at the top of the singles lineup.

One day later, Nguyen only played doubles in a 7-0 sweep of Villanova. Alongside Zamora, the pair took down Kush Anand/Cooper Gordon, 6-4, on court one to clinch the doubles point.

Nguyen continued his winning ways against LMU this past Sunday with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Sebastian Nothhaft at No. 2 singles, and a 6-1 victory over Nothhaft/Sadek at No. 1 doubles.

On the season, Nguyen leads the Anteaters with a 7-2 singles record and a 6-3 doubles record. This is his second career Big West Player of the Week award.

UC Irvine is back at Anteater Tennis Stadium tomorrow, hosting Navy at 1 p.m.
