PHOENIX, Ariz. – UC Irvine is in second place after the first day of the GCU Invitational held at the GCU Golf Course Tuesday.
The Anteaters are two strokes behind host Grand Canyon with a two-round total of 573 (285-288). UCI's first round of 285 is tied for the fifth-best 18-hole team performance in program history.
Freshman
Katelyn Kong leads the Anteaters with a score of three-under par 141 (70-71). She is in second place, two strokes off the lead. Kong fired a team-best eight birdies over the 36 holes.
Junior
Jasmine Chen was one of three tournament players to record a tournament-low 69 on the first round. She is tied for third with a 36-hole total of 142 (69-73).
Freshman
Alona Avery is tied for 13
th with a one-over par 145 (72-73), while freshman
Katherine Gerbing is tied for 16
th with a score of 146 (75-71). Sophomore
Alyson Sor is tied for 54
th place with a total of 154 (74-80).
The Anteaters will play the final round tomorrow beginning with a shotgun star at 7:00 a.m. PT.
