UC Irvine Finishes Sixth at MPSF Championships

SPOKANE, Wash. β The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team closed out the MPSF Championships Saturday at The Podium.

The Anteaters finished sixth overall with 53.5 points. Oregon State took home the team title with 128.5 points, while Washington State was second (102.5).

Junior Nyla Baker made her way onto the podium in the shot put for the second year in a row, coming in third with a toss of 14.18 meters (46-6.25). Freshman Pinkie Schnayer added a top-10 showing with a personal-record 13.66m (44-6).

In the high jump, junior Zharia Taylor took third with a clearance of 1.75m (5-8.75). Sophomore Kailah McKenzie also scored in the event as she tied for sixth at 1.65m (5-5)

Senior Malia Gay, who ran the opening leg of the school-record breaking distance medley relay yesterday, scored in the 800m with a fourth-place effort. She clocked in at 2:11.13.
Sophomore Halle Sutherland was also fourth in the 60m final with a lifetime-best 7.51. She shaved .01 seconds off her No. 2 time in program history.

Senior Reyna Johnson led a trio of Anteaters in the 60m hurdle finals, crossing the finish line in sixth at 8.57 seconds. Senior Jazzmine Davis (8.60) and McKenzie (8.72) were seventh and eighth, respectively.

Junior Esmeray Demirbas placed eighth out of 29 in the 400m (56.49). Sophomore Amelia Trautman (57.51) added a personal best.

Sophomore Kaia Schmidt ran a personal-record 4:57.72 in the mile. She was just outside of scoring position in ninth, but posted the third-fastest time in program history. Seniors Makena Castillo (5:03.80) and Maggie Sczupak (5:05.03) also notched lifetime bests, while classmate Montgomery Allison (5:10.46) had a season best.

Senior Anna Vogtmann was UC Irvine's top finisher in the 3000m, coming in 17th at 10:02.13. Freshmen Liana Lee (10:08.33) and Cynthia Herrera (10:09.7) both registered personal bests that rank ninth and 10th, respectively, in school history.

Demirbas, Gay, Mikah Longcob and TrautmanΒ combined for an eighth-place showing in the 4x400 relay (3:50.06) to close out the day.
