IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine women's cross country/track & field alum Hannah Chau has qualified for the 2028 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.

On Sunday, Dec. 7, Chau competed in the California International Marathon in Sacramento. This year's edition of the race also doubled as the 2025 USATF Marathon Championships. Chau finished 44th in the women's division with a qualifying time of 2:36:27.

Chau had a decorated Anteater career from 2019-23. She was a three-time All-Big West cross country performer and ranks among the top-three in school history in both the 4K and 6K. On the track, she earned four all-conference awards and broke the school record in the steeplechase twice with a best of 10:20.11 as a senior. In 2021, Chau became UCI's first Big West champion in the women's 10,000-meter since 2002. She is also among the indoor program's all-time top-10 in the mile, 3000m, and 5000m.

Chau graduated from UC Irvine with a bachelor's degree in public health sciences (2022) and a master's degree in demographic and social analysis (2023). She is currently completing her first year of medical school at Creighton.
