UC Irvine Women's Tennis Set to Play in CSUN Fall Invitational and Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Over Weekend

| By:

IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's tennis fall season will close its fall season with a pair of tournaments between Nov. 7 and Nov. 9. The Anteaters, for a second straight weekend, will split its squad between two invitational tournaments in Southern California.

A portion of the UC Irvine team will play at the CSUN Fall Invitational in Northridge, Calif. beginning on Nov. 7, while the remaining Anteaters will head to the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, Calif. on Nov. 8 to begin a two-day tournament.

The CSUN Fall Invitational will be played as a "hidden dual," a format in which team scores are not kept and only individual player records are tracked. The Pomona-Pitzer Invitational will be played in a "round robin" style, ensuring each program plays against each other at least one time over the weekend.

Here are five things to know before the week's play.

TOURNAMENT DATES AND TIMES

UC Irvine opens play for the week on Friday, Nov. 7 with singles at the CSUN Fall Invitational. The Anteaters will play in Northridge through Sunday, Nov. 9.

UCI will begin play at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 8 with the tournament ending on Nov. 9.

FROM HEAD COACH ELIZABETH FERRIS SMITH

"We are excited about another opportunity to get everyone competing again this weekend. The CSUN invitational brings in high level competition and will allow us to see how we stack up day to day and by the end of it we will get a sense of where we stand. The Pomona tournament is a new event to us and will feature some of the best D3 teams in the country plus some formidable conference opponents. We put some new doubles pairs together last week that we will continue in these events plus some new ones that we are curious to see how they do. We would like to see the team continue to build their points and use their tools appropriately and play with discipline and also support one another as they will be playing a hidden dual match format. These will be our last events this fall and I know we will end on a high note as a team!"
