LAWRENCE, Kansas -- UC Irvine completed the Marilyn Smith Sunflower Invitational in sixth place Tuesday.
The Anteaters shot a two-day total of 899 (306-291-302) at the Lawrence Country Club. For the tournament, UCI combined for 27 birdies and 155 pars. Kansas won its home tournament with five players in the top eight spots, recording a plus-three 855 (281-280-294). Kansas' Ebba Nordstedt won medalist honors with a six-under 207 (63-71-73).
Sophomore
Katelyn Kong posted her second consecutive Top 10 finish with a sixth place showing. She had a 54-hole total of 218, carding the team's lowest score of the tournament with an even-par 71 on the final round. Kong ranked ninth among participants in pars with 36 and was tied for fifth in Par 4 scoring at 4.12 (+4).
Senior
Kiana Briggs (78-72-76) and sophomore
Katherine Gerbing (79-72-75) tied for 25
th with a score of 226. Graduate student
Jenny Chang was tied for 44
th at 231 (76-75-80), while sophomore
Alona Avery was tied for 66
th with a two-day total of 241 (77-83-81).
The Anteaters will complete the Fall schedule with a trip to the Golf Iconic Classic hosted by New Mexico State at the New Mexico State Golf Course next Monday-Wednesday (Oct. 13-15).
