UCI Duo Headed to Doubles Round of 16

TEMPE, Ariz. – Mason Bui and Nathaniel Suh won their Round of 32 doubles match to highlight Saturday's action for UC Irvine at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships.

Bui/Suh upset seventh-seeded Hugh Winter/Photos Photiades of Pepperdine, 8-6. The Anteaters will continue main draw action in the Round of 16 on Sunday.

Tal Goodman and Hiroki Sakagawa came up just short in a tiebreaker to San Diego State's Brock Anderson/Aleksi Lofman, 8-7 (4). Sohrob Amiryavari and Max Fardanesh also fell to the Aztecs' fourth-seeded pairing of Lars Johann/Imran Daniel Abdul Hazli, 8-2.

In singles, Goodman dropped a narrow 7-6 (6), 6-4 decision to Lasse Poertner of Pepperdine in the Round of 32.

Three 'Eaters moved on in the consolation draw. Max Fardanesh defeated Arizona's Baran Soyler in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Greg Gamal won his first set against Eugenio Gonzalez (SDSU), 6-1, before Gonzalez retired due to injury. Hiroki Sakagawa also advanced by a walkover.

UCI returns to Kiwanis Tennis Center for the fourth day of the ITA Southwest Regional Championships tomorrow, starting with doubles at 12 p.m.
