Anteaters Fall To CSU Bakersfield In Four Sets

IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine fired a season-high 10 aces but suffered a four-set loss to Cal State Bakersfield Friday at the Bren Events Center.

UCI won the first set 25-15 then dropped the next three, 29-31, 19-25, 15-25.

Six different Anteaters recorded an ace, led by freshman Angelina Dellutri's career-best three.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Senior Kendra Duffey led the Anteaters with 14 kills, eight digs, three block assists and an ace
>Opposite Lois Hansen totaled 10 kills and five digs
>Setter Nicole Feliciano had a team-best 17 digs to go with 22 set assists, four kills and a block assist
>Outside hitter Madison Triplett added seven kills, seven digs, two block assists and an ace
>Middle blockers Sydnee Rowe and Elizabeth Miller each had five kills with Rowe leading the squad with four block assists and Miller tallying two aces
>Libero Campbell Jensen collected 15 digs and fired two aces
>Along with her three aces, Dellutri was just shy of a double-double with 14 set assists and nine digs
>After four blocks in the first set, UCI managed just three for the rest of the match
>CSUB out-hit UCI .237-.115 and were led by Suelen Lima's match-high 20 kills
>UCI is 6-11 overall and CSUB is 4-13. Both teams are 1-4 in the Big West

FIRST SET
>The UCI block started to heat up rejecting two Roadrunner attempts in a 5-1 run that gave the Anteaters a 9-6 lead
>UCI went up 13-7 on a kill and ace by Madison Triplett, a kill by Sydnee Rowe and a block by Rowe and Kendra Duffey
>Three kills and two UCI errors powered UCR back into the match, 12-14
>The Anteaters answered with four of their own including kills by Duffey and Elizabeth Miller and an ace by Angelina Dellutri, 18-12
>UCI ended the set with kills by Dellutri and Triplett, 25-15

SECOND SET
>Three UCI attack errors and an ace moved CSUB out to an 8-4 advantage
>It was UCI's turn to take advantage of three Roadrunner miscues including an ace by Miller, 8-8
>With CSUB leading 14-12, UCI rallied on two kills by Lois Hansen and an ace by Campbell Jensen, 15-14
>In a game of runs, the Roadrunners would answer with five of the next six to move out to a 19-16 advantage
>UCI held off set point with a kill by Duffey and another by Miller on an overpass, 24-24
>A Hansen kill held off another CSUB set point before Miller crushed another overpass to give UCI the 26-25 lead
>Teams would battle back-and-forth until CSUB had three straight points, two kills and a UCI ball that went wide to win the set, 31-29
>The set saw 14 ties and eight lead changes

THIRD SET
>An Emma Napoleon ace tied the set at 7-7
>A kill by Duffey, a solo block by Abby Pekrul and an ace by Triplett gave the Anteaters a 13-11 advantage
>CSUB broke it open with seven in a row using three kills, three Anteater attack errors and an ace, 20-15
>The Roadrunners would record four blocks in the set and win 25-19

FOURTH SET
>A 7-2 CSUB spurt that included a block created some separation, 13-9
>Three consecutive Roadrunner kills made it 18-12
>CSU Bakersfield scored the final four points of the match, 25-15

NOTES
>The 31-29 second set is the longest of the season for the Anteaters
>It is the sixth time this season Duffey has recorded double-digit kills
>Emma Napoleon had her third ace of the season
