FULLERTON, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer was on the hunt for their first Big West win in a crosstown battle at Titan Stadium against Cal State Fullerton finishing Saturday night in a 1-1 draw

- The county derby began with some offensive highlights once the action began in the eighth minute
- Joe O'Shaughnessy was put to the test with a save on the match's first shot
- The 'Eaters picked up three corner kicks in the first 20 minutes
- Brady Treinen and Agaton Pourshahidi both missed missed by inches with shots high in the 12th and 16th minutes, respectively
- Marcus Lee and Isaiahs Gutierrez followed up with tries on frame that were stopped in the 21st and 24th minutes, respectively
- The scoring finally came in the 28th in a unique way
- Braden Ferreira sent a ball ahead with Gage Lyons and a CSF defender giving chase
- Titan keeper came out of his box to cut it off, but arrived at the same time as the oncoming duel
- The ball ricocheted off all three players and slipping through to Lyons who continued his run and he was able to tap home a goal into an empty net for a 1-0 lead
- The attack continued to push down the final half an hour. Zac Smuck gave a try just missing in the 38th minute. The Titans missed wide of the far post in a shot as the clock hit zero
Pointing The Way
- The offensive pressure continued as the second half began
- UCI earned two more corners in the first four minutes and had a pair of shots that never made it through
- Cal State Fullerton had a flurry of shots in a five-minute span from Ulises Grado and Jose de la Torre with two needing saving by O'Shaughnessy
- Everything evened up in the 69th minute as the Titans play in a ball along the right wing
- A pass back from the endline went to Grado who created some space and shot back toward the near post just finding some daylight on a roller by the diving O'Shaughnessy to tie it, 1-1
- Neither side really mustered up a true threat for the winner in the final 20 minutes. Agaton Pourshahidi had the only shot on target in the 77th minute that was handled as the match was seen through to a draw

- Lyons finally got back on the scoresheet for his second goal of the season, first since game two of the year against Cal State LA
- He's up to 12 collegiate goals paired with his 10 at Army West Point
- O'Shaughnessy was there to collect three saves on the night. He and the Anteaters now sit at 5-3-5 on the season
- UCI picks up another point for four in four Big West matches all on draws. The four Big West draws already ties a program record at four that UCI reached in 2001
- UCI's five draws on the season mark the sixth time the program has had as many in one season, the only seasons with more were 2001 and 2008 when UCI finished with six in each
- The four consecutive draws in an Anteater men's soccer record. Only one time previously had UCI had even three consecutive draws which came in 2001
The Anteaters will get a welcome sight by returning to Anteater Stadium for their next match on Wednesday, October 14, to take on CSUN at 6:00 p.m.
