September 05, 2024 | Women's Tennis
IRVINE, Calif. -- UC Irvine women's tennis head coach Elizabeth Ferris Smith announced two teams captains for the 2024-25 season.
Senior Kayla Meraz and junior Haily Huynh were selected to lead the 'Eaters. Meraz was also a captain for the 2023-24 season.
Meraz enters her second full season with three overall singles wins in 2024 and six doubles victories.
"Being captain of this team means leading with passion, setting the tone for determination, and fostering a spirit of unity on and off the court," remarked Meraz. "Regardless of wins and losses, it is about inspiring each player to reach their full potential on and off the court. I look forward to this year with the team and can't wait to see where it takes us. "
Huynh heads into her third year with the squad. In 2024, the then sophomore finished with a team best 10 individual victories where four of them were earned at the No. 4 spot.
"I am honored to be picked as captain for the upcoming season," stated Huynh. "I am hoping to lead our new players to reach their tennis and academic goals. Not only do I want to lead a good example for our team but to be a person that my teammates can look up to and always rely on for advice. I am super excited for this new season, go 'Eaters!"
