WOLCOTT, Colo. -- UC Irvine finished sixth at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic at the Red Sky Golf Club with another impressive team performance.
The Anteaters shot a 54-hole total of 870 (289-290-291), the second lowest score in program history, trailing only behind the team's last time out at the Wolverine Invitational 853 (283-286-284).
Freshman
Alona Avery recorded her second Top 10 performance of her young career, placing seventh with a score of five-under par 211 (69-67-75). Her score of 211 is tied for seventh best in 54 holes at UCI, while her 36-hole total of 136 ranked tied for second. She had a career-low 67 on the second round, which is tied for the sixth-best outing. Â Avery, who was a tournament- best seven under on Par 4s, recorded 12 birdies overall.
Freshman
Katelyn Kong shared the team low round Wednesday with an even par 72. Her three-day total of 217 (70-75-72) was good for a tie at 21
st position.
Freshman
Katherine Gerbing was tied for 23
rd with a score of 218 (74-71-73), leading the tournament field in Par 3 scoring (-4).
Kong and Gerbing each recorded 11 birdies over the 54 holes.
Junior
Jasmine Chen, who had an eagle on the first round, matched Kong with a final round of 72 and ended with a score of 225 (76-77-72), tied for 52
nd place. Freshman
Apple Zheng had her best collegiate showing with a score of 74 on the final round and ended in a tie for 71
st place with a 54-hole total of 232 (79-79-74).
In a quick turnaround, UCI will head to the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational Monday-Tuesday (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club.
