SEATTLE, Wash. --- UC Irvine women's soccer rode up to Husky Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon looking for their first result against Washington, but were turned away in a 2-0 defeat.
- UCI and the defense held tough in the first half keeping the Huskies scoreless
- The 'Eaters had two shots putting one on target, and allowed just one shot on frame to UW despite 10 shots
- The Huskies struck first in the second half as a corner kick was headed high into the air and guided in by a Husky for a 1-0 advantage in the 53rd minute
- The Anteaters were on the attack with six second half shots including three on target and two quickly after the goal allowed by Desiree Mendoza in response
- The attack thickened in the final five minutes searching for an equalizer including keeper Ashley Naylor into the mixer on an 88th minute corner kick
- The Huskies cleared and were able to fight a ball away from Naylor well out into the middle third and finish into an empty net with 49 seconds remaining to lead, 2-0
- UC Irvine fell now to 1-2-1 on the season, and remaining winless in nine career matchups with Washington
- Naylor picked up two saves in net and the teams finished even in shots on goal with four each despite a 16-8 shot advantage to Washington
The Anteaters return home for their next two against San Francisco, Thursday, August 29, and Arizona, Sunday, September 1.
