Anteaters Blank UC San Diego, 4-0

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's tennis team blanked UC San Diego, 4-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts.
 
The Anteaters, who have swept three of their five conference opponents, improved to 14-6 overall and 4-1 in Big West play. The Tritons, who had won five of their last six, dropped to 8-15, 1-2 Big West.
 
UCI won the doubles point for the third-straight match. Hiroki Sakagawa and Andy Nguyen earned their team-leading ninth doubles victory, taking down Daniel Traxler/William Lan, 6-0, at No. 2.

Matthew Sah and Lawee Sherif then closed out a 6-2 win over Diogo Tinoco/Phillip Lan on court three to put the 'Eaters up, 1-0. It was the season debut for Sah/Sherif as a duo.
 
Sherif kept the momentum in singles where he dispatched Traxler, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6. Sakagawa also made quick work of Lan, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, before Noah Zamora clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Tinoco at the third position. Zamora is unbeaten in his last six outings and is now 4-0 in Big West play.

Rithvik Krishna was up 6-3, 5-1 at No. 4, and Rahul Dhokia held a 6-2, 5-4 advantage at No. 5.
 
UC Irvine will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 20, when it welcomes Hawai'i to Anteater Tennis Stadium for a 12 p.m. Big West showdown.
 
The Anteaters are currently a half-game behind No. 49 UC Santa Barbara, which sits atop the conference standings with a perfect 4-0 league record. UCI can clinch a share of the Big West title with a win on Saturday and a UCSB loss to either UC Riverside (April 18) or Cal Poly (April 20).
