UC Irvine Tied for Ninth Through 18 Holes at UCSD Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC Irvine men's golf is tied for ninth after the first round of the UC San Diego Invitational Sunday at Torrey Pines Golf Course.
 
Yale, North Dakota State and Oklahoma Christian all recorded a 5-count-4 total of 5-over 293 to tie for first through 18 holes. The Anteaters are 12 strokes back as they combined for a 305.
 
Freshman Jason Tang led the 'Eaters in their first tournament action since Feb. 20. Tang came in at 3-over 75 to tie for 23rd. He made a late push with two birdies over his last three holes.
 
Sophomore Rei Harashima also had two birdies, finishing with a 76 (+4) to tie for 37th.

Senior Darien Zhao and sophomore Jin Nakao are tied for 47th after carding a 77 (+5).
 
Matt McGann (Idaho), Robert You (Yale) and Ian Simonich (North Dakota State) all had a 2-under 70 to take the early lead.
 
UCI returns to Torrey Pines for the second round of the UC San Diego Invitational on Monday, March 25.
