Deandra Tyler Captures Shot Put Tite At Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Senior Deandra Tyler won the shot put to highlight Saturday's action at the 45th Annual Aztec Invitational at the Choc Sportsman/Aztrack on the SDSU Sports Deck.

Tyler won the shot put for the fourth time this season with a throw of 14.84m (48-8.25), the sixth-best mark at UCI all-time and more than six-feet farther than the next competitor. She would lead UC Irvine with 13 of the Anteaters' 30 points on the way to a 10th place team finish.

Sophomore Nyla Baker was third in the shot put with a toss of 12.81m (42-0.5), while placing third in the discus with a mark of 44.38m (145-7).

In the hammer throw, DeAna Davis finished fourth with a toss of 53.16m (174-5), the eighth best mark in UCI history. Tyler would also score points in the hammer, coming in sixth at 50.01m (164-1).

Freshman Alana Sugue finished in a tie for 17th place in the pole vault, clearing 3.57 (11-8.5).

UCI will host the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic next Friday and Saturday (Mar. 29-30) at Anteater Stadium.
