HONOLULU, Hawaii – Outside hitter Hilir Henno had a career-high and nation's best 36 kills, but it wasn't enough as No. 5 UC Irvine fell in five sets to No. 3 Hawaii (25-23, 19-25, 22-25, 25-17, 13-15) in the championship match of the OUTRIGGER Invitational at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center Sunday evening.

Henno used every type of shot to record his 36 career-best kills, just one shy of the UCI rally-scoring record. The 36 kills matches Erick Helenihi's mark set in Feb. 20, 2002 against BYU and is tied for seventh most all-time at UCI. The junior hit .412 (36-8-68), fired three aces and had six digs and two block assists. His 68 attack attempts are a UCI rally scoring record and also the most in the country this season.

Henno and Maxim Grigoriev were named to the All-Tournament team.

The reigning Big West Offensive Player of the Week Brett Sheward posted a career-best 22 digs which are the most in the Big West and second most in the nation this season. He added three kills from the outside with 30 set assists.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Outside hitter Akhil Tangutur totaled 10 kills, six digs, three block assists and an ace
>Grigoriev had nine kills and a team-best six block assists, which matched his season-high
>Middle blocker Connor Campbell recorded eight kills and had four total blocks

FIRST SET
>Four early kills by Hilir Henno helped UCI out to a 5-2 lead
>Three in a row by the Warriors tied it at 8-8
>A solo block by Connor Campbell put UCI up 11-9
>Back-to-back kills by Maxim Grigoriev and Henno knotted the score at 18-18
>Henno took over the offense putting away a variety of different kills, the last hammered from the back row, 23-22
>A block by Grigoriev and Akhil Tangutur made it set point, 24-22
>A Hawaii kill was followed by Henno's 12^th kill, 25-23

SECOND SET
>Back-to-back kill by Tangutur gave the Anteaters the 5-4 lead
>A 4-1 run by UH pushed the Warriors past UCI, 8-6
>A block by Henno and Grigoriev, a kill by Henno and a UH attack error put the Anteaters ahead, 10-9
>Hawaii answered with three in a row, two blocks and a kill, 12-10
>UH out-scored UCI 5-1 to break open the set, 18-13
>A kill by Grigoriev, UH attack error and a kill by Henno inched UCI to 18-21
>Hawaii out-scored the Anteaters 4-1 to close out the set 25-19
>UCI hit .125 (11-7-32)

THIRD SET
>A Campbell and Henno block after a long rally was followed by another UH attack error and a Campbell kill helping the Anteaters to a 4-1 advantage
>Brett Sheward took advantage of no blockers up for the kill, 6-3
>A kill and block assist from Sheward increased the lead to 8-5 only to watch Hawaii score the next seven, three on aces, to move in front, 12-8
>A Tangutur ace kept UCI close, 11-13
>A block by Grigoriev and Joe Karlous plus three Henno kills, one down the line, one off the block and one cross court propelled the Anteaters to a 15-14 lead
>Hawaii out-scored UCI 6-3 to go up 20-18
>Kills by Tangutur and Henno tied the set at 20 all until Hawaii had a kill, a UCI attack error and a block to regain control, 23-20
>Hawaii would go on to win the set 25-22

FOURTH SET
>Henno used the right hand for a kill, 2-0
>The Anteaters exploded for nine in a row, including two Henno aces to take a 12-2 lead
>Hawaii rallied with five straight, 12-7
>A kill by Henno and a block by Tangutur and Grigoriev stopped the momentum, 14-7
>Kills by Grigoriev and Tangutur and two Warrior attack errors forced a UH timeout, 18-9
>Hawaii had two kills and an Anteater attack error to close to 20-15
>Two more Henno kills and a UH attack sailing long gave the Anteaters set point, 24-16
>Following a bad set, Henno ended it 25-17

FIFTH SET
>Hawaii scored the first three points
>Kills by Campbell and Henno got the Anteaters back in it, 4-5
>Andon Kiriakou pounded his first career kill then was followed by a UH attack error, 8-11
>Hawaii held match-point 14-10 before the Anteaters rallied on a Henno kill, block by Tangutur and Campbell and an ace by Henno, 13-14
>Hawaii's Guilherme Voss ended the match with a kill, 15-13
