PALM DESERT, Calif. - UC Irvine men's golf is seventh after the first round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Classic Club.
The Anteaters combined for an 18-hole score of 290 (+2). Grand Canyon holds the early lead at 9-under 279, while the Lopes' Gavin O'Neill sits atop the individual leaderboard by one stroke with a 68 (-4).
Jin Nakao had UCI's best round of the day as he is tied for 10th at 2-under 70. Nakao had a clean scorecard with two birdies and a tournament-best 16 pars.
Jason Tang also came in below par with a 71 (-1) to tie for 20th. Tang tied for the team lead with five birdies. Rei Harashima also fired five birdies but finished at 1-over 73 to tie for 36th.
Yaoting Zou (76) and Darien Zhao (80) rounded out UCI's 5-count-4 lineup.
The 'Eaters return to the Classic Club on Wednesday, Feb. 7, for the second round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
