UCI Takes Down Cal State Los Angeles, 6-1

Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine defeated Cal State Los Angeles, 6-1, in a Saturday morning match in Los Angeles.
 
Sophomores Asha Gidwani and Amanda Perez set the Anteaters up for success in the doubles portion of the match with a 6-1 win at No. 3. Continuing, the No. 2 pairing of Kayla Meraz and Jenna Schlatter defeated their opposition, 6-2, to earn the 1-0 advantage in the match.
 
Sophomore Carolyna Fowler stepped into the No. 6 singles slot as UCI displayed a new individual lineup for the match. C. Fowler went on to win 6-0, 6-1 over Summer Roybal to keep the 'Eaters ahead, 2-0.
 
The Golden Eagles earned their lone point of the match on court three due to retirement to cut their deficit to one, 2-1. UC Irvine swept the rest of the singles competition to come away with their third win of the season, 6-1.
 
"Cal State Los Angeles always plays us tough," stated head coach Elizabeth Ferris Smith. "This could've been a much trickier match if we didn't play focused and disciplined. This was a good turnaround from yesterday's match. It's great to get a win today!"
