Katelyn Kong Fires 68 To Lead UC Irvine To Third Place In Hawaii

KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Freshman Katelyn Kong posted a career-low 68 to lead UC Irvine to a third-place finish at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Wednesday.
The Anteaters tied Grand Canyon for third place with a score of 855 (284-285-286), finishing in the top five for the third time in four fall tournaments. Colorado State's Lacey Uchida won the individual title with a 12-under 204 (64-71-69) leading the Rams to the team title at 23-under par 841 (276-288-277).
UCI was fourth among tournament participants with 46 birdies and 175 pars.
Kong had five birdies on the final round at Kapolei Golf Club to card her career-best 68. She had her second Top-10 finish, placing in a tie for seventh with a three-day total of 211 (73-70-68). Her 211 is tied for seventh-best for 54 holes in the UCI record book.
Junior Jasmine Chen was tied for 18th, her first Top 20 performance of the year, with a score of 214 (70-72-72). Sophomore Alyson Sor (69-73-73) and freshman Alona Avery (72-70-73) tied for 20th with a 54-hole score of 215. Freshman Katherine Gerbing was tied for 67th at 229 (75-74-80), while junior Kiana Briggs was tied for 42nd playing as an individual with a three-day score of 222 (72-73-77).
Sor recorded 12 birdies over the three days, sixth most for the tournament.
UCI concludes the fall schedule and returns to action at the UC Crown, a dual against UC Riverside, on February 2, 2025.
